About Ms Chan…
Learning a language is not easy. I’m blessed that I’m able to speak 3 languages: English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. I’m also blessed that I can read English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.
My ancestors were in Mainland China. They went to Indonesia where my parents were born. In the 1960s, my parents decided to go back to China, after a few years, they arrived Hong Kong, there, me and my sister were born.
I was brought up in Hong Kong. I got my Mandarin from my parents, and I grew up speaking Cantonese which is what people speak in Hong Kong. I learned English as a second language in the education system.
I have a Bachelor degree of Language and a Master degree of Translation.
In 2018, I started teaching young children in North America the Cantonese language and how to write traditional Chinese characters.
I believe that when people learn a language, they not only learn to listen, speak, read, and write, but also learn about the culture and history associated with it.
This is a place for those who want to learn Hong Kong style Cantonese, and for those who want to pass the language and culture down to the next generation.
